Traditional Greek Loukoumades recipe
Loukoumades are very popular sweets in Greece. They are also typical in Turkey, as well as in other Middle Eastern countries. This small morsels of fried dough that are drizzled with syrup or honey are absolutely irresistible for those with a sweet tooth
Ingredients
Dough
- 300 g whole-wheat flour
- 335 g water
- 10 g dry yeast
- 20 g sugar
- 30 g maize starch
- 20 g milk powder
- 15 g sunflower oil
- salt
Syrup
- 400 g sugar
- 440 g water
- 2 slices of lemon
- 3 cardamom seeds

Directions
In a bowl, add water, dry yeast and sugar. Stir
Add the powdered milk, cornstarch, flour, salt and sunflower oil. Mix well.
Cover for one hour and set aside.
In a saucepan, put sugar, lemon slices, water and cardamom seeds.
Boil for ten minutes.
Remove from the heat and strain.
Add the honey and mix.
Uncover the mixture and stir.
Pour into a piping bag.
In a frying pan, fry dough balls in hot oil until golden brown.
Take off the heat and strain to remove the excess fat.
Dip the loukoumades in the syrup and strain.
Decorate with crushed pistachios.
