Traditional English Ploughman's Lunch
The Ploughman's Lunch is a classic British dish that is perfect for a light and simple meal. It consists of a variety of ingredients, such as cheese, meats, pickles, and bread all served cold or at room temperature. This recipe is easy to assemble and can be customized to suit taste preferences.
Ingredients
- 8 slices of bread (sourdough, whole grain or your preferred variety)
- 8 ounces cheddar cheese
- 4 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and halved
- 8 slices of ham
- 4 pickles or gherkins
- 1 medium red onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, sliced
- 2 tbls butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Mixed greens, for serving

Directions
Start by lightly toasting the slices of bread. You can either use a toaster or toast them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes.
Spread a tablespoon of butter on each slice of toasted bread.
Arrange the cheddar cheese, ham slices, hard-boiled eggs, pickles, red onion, and tomato slices on top of 4 bread slices.
Season with salt and pepper according to your taste.
Top each assembled sandwich with the remaining slices of bread to form a sandwich.
Cut each sandwich into halves or quarters to create manageable portions.
Serve the Ploughman's Lunch with a side of mixed salad greens to add freshness to the dish.
