Original Turkish baklava recipe
Created by the Arabs, but perfected in Ottoman times, Baklava is an easy dessert to make. Turkish recipes are all the rage and with this imperial sweet you can delight your guests.

- 500 g filo pastry
- 125 g unsalted butter
- 300 g pistachios
Syrup
- 250 ml water
- 180 g sugar
- 1⁄2 lemon juice

Make a syrup with water, sugar and the juice of half a lemon.

Stir while heating to dissolve the sugar, bring to the boil and once it comes to the boil, reduce the heat a little and cook for 20 minutes.

Melt the butter.

In a baking pan, roll out the layers of filo pastry, making sure it does not break.

Brush the filo pastry with melted butter and add an additional layer of filo pastry. Repeat until 20 layers are completed.

Chop the pistachios. Save some for decoration.

Sprinkle the pistachios over the surface of the filo pastry.

Brush the surface with butter. Repeat the procedure until all the layers are finished.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Then, cut the baklava into small pieces up to the bottom of the baking dish.

Remove from the oven. Add the syrup, making sure to cover all the squares. Leave to cool completely.
