Leek vegetables granny style
This recipe was passed down to me from my beloved grandma. She always prepared leek vegetables with much love and devotion. I still remember the special smell that drifted through the house when she was in the kitchen preparing this delicious dish. Over the years I have perfected the recipe and it is still one of my favorites.

Directions
For the leek vegetable recipe, first wash and clean the leeks thoroughly. I recommend cutting off the dark green leaves as they can be a bit tough. Then cut the remaining leek into rings.
Finely chop the onions and garlic cloves. Here a sharp knife is indispensable to make the job easier.
In the next step, I heat the butter in a large pan and then add the onions and garlic. You should fry them for about 5 minutes until they are soft and fragrant.
Now I add the leek to the pan and let it fry for about 10 minutes. It is important that it is thoroughly covered with the butter to develop the full flavor.
Then I pour the vegetable broth into the pan and let everything simmer for about 20 minutes. During this time, the leeks become nice and soft and absorb the flavor of the broth.
Finally, I stir in the cream and season the vegetables with salt, pepper and nutmeg. For non-vegetarians, bacon or ham can be added. Stir everything well and simmer for another 5 minutes.
Voilà, the leek vegetables are ready to serve! It tastes wonderful as a side dish with meat or fish and, of course, with potatoes.
