Soft Gerbeaud Cake
The Soft Gerbeaud Cake is a traditional Hungarian dessert made with nuts, jam, and chocolate. Its tasty, crumbly dough and rich filling will knock everyone off their feet. It's an ideal choice for holidays, or just for an everyday treat.
Ingredients
Dough
- 500 g flour
- 230 g butter
- 70 g confectionery sugar
- 1 pc egg
- 20 g yeast
- 50 ml milk
- 1 package vanilla sugar
Filling
- 150 g walnuts
- 330 g peach compote
Peanut butter
- 200 g chocolate

Directions
Step 1 - Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk, then add the butter, the egg, the powdered sugar, the vanilla sugar and the flour. Mix it thoroughly and let it rise for about 30 minutes.
Step 2 - Divide the dough into two parts, then roll out both parts thinly. Spread apricot jam on one of the dough sheets, sprinkle with walnuts, and then place the other dough sheet on top.
Step 3 - Bake the whole thing in the oven at 180 degrees for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate over a water bath.
Step 4 - Take the finished zserbo out of the oven, sprinkle it with the remaining nuts, then pour the chocolate glaze over it. Once the glaze has dried, slice the zserbo and serve.
