Simple Homemade Teriyaki Sauce Marinade
Teriyaki sauce is a popular Japanese condiment known for its rich, savory, and slightly sweet flavor. It is commonly used as a marinade for meats and vegetables, or as a glaze for grilling. This simple and versatile recipe allows you to make your own homemade teriyaki sauce in just a few minutes.
Ingredients
- 1⁄2 Cup soy sauce
- 1⁄2 Cup mirin (Japanese sweet rice)
- 2 tbls honey or brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

Directions
In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, mirin, honey (or brown sugar), minced garlic, and minced ginger.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the honey (or sugar) is dissolved.
If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of water in a separate bowl to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the saucepan and stir continuously until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
Allow the teriyaki sauce cool before using. It will continue to thicken slightly.
Store the sauce in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Shake well before each use.
