How to prepare homemade Hot dog buns?
Hot dog buns are famous American buns, tender, fluffy and very tasty. It's an ideal bun for hot dogs or for the Lobster Roll, the typical snack of the New England states, especially Maine. It's also very typical in New York City. Learn how to cook it here
Ingredients
- 500 g plain wheat flour
- 250 ml lukewarm water
- 1 egg
- 8 g dry yeast
- 40 g sugar
- 5 g salt
- 40 g unsalted butter
- olive oil

Directions
Pour 125 ml of warm water and the wheat flour into the mixer bowl. Take a couple of spoonfuls and add them to the bowl, together with 8 g of dry yeast. Mix well with a spoon and leave to stand for 15 minutes. After this time it will be full of bubbles.

Add the rest of the flour, salt, sugar, egg and the rest of water. Beat with the dough hook for 5 minutes. Add 40 g of butter and knead for another 5 minutes.

Brush a large bowl with oil, make a ball with the dough and place it inside. Cover and leave to rest for 2 hours.

Flour a surface and turn the dough out onto it. Then, make 10 equal portions and shape them into balls.

Spray a typical Hot Dog Buns mould with release spray. Roll out each ball of dough with a rolling pin. Then roll out the rectangle obtained. Place each bun in its cavity.

Brush a piece of cling film with oil and cover them. Leave to rest for 2 hours.

Brush the loaves with oil or butter and bake for 20 minutes in a preheated oven at 180° C.

Leave to rest for 5 minutes and remove from the mould to cool on a wire rack.
