How to cook Japanese Gyoza Pork Dumplings

Japanese Gyoza is a popular dumpling dish enjoyed in many places all over the world. It is characterized by its succulent filling encapsulated by a crispy and tender dumpling wrapper. Perfect for dinners, appetizers, and parties, these dumplings are a sure crowd-pleaser.

For the Gyoza Filling:

  • 250 g ground ​pork Added to
  • 1 Cup finely chopped cabbage Added to
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped Added to
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Added to
  • 1 fresh ginger, minced Added to

For the Gyoza Wrappers:

  • 4 store-bought Gyoza wrappers Added to

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tbls soy sauce Added to
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar Added to
  • Dash of sesame oil Added to
  • Chili oil (optional, if you like it spicy) Added to

1. Step

In a bowl, mix together the ground pork, chopped cabbage, green onion, garlic, and ginger. Season with salt and pepper.

2. Step

Taking one Gyoza wrapper at a time, place a small spoonful of the pork mixture in the center of each wrapper. Fold the wrapper over the filling and seal the edges using water or egg white.

3. Step

In a non-stick pan, arrange the Gyozas in a single layer, flat side down. Pour enough water to cover half of the dumplings and place the lid on. Cook until the water has evaporated.

4. Step

Remove the lid and let the bottom of the dumplings turn crispy.

5. Step

In the meantime, prepare the dipping sauce by mixing together soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Add chili oil if you prefer it spicy.

6. Step

Once the dumplings are cooked and crispy, serve with the dipping sauce.
