Directions
First prepare the basic dough: mix the flour with the icing sugar and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Make sure the flour is always at room temperature, this will make mixing easier.
Add 200g room temperature butter and the egg, then knead the dough. In my experience, kneading with your hands makes it much easier to distribute the butter in the dough.
When the dough is ready, set it aside to rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. This is an essential step to preserve the shape of the cookies during baking.
After the dough has rested, stretch it out and cut out the desired shapes. Here you have endless possibilities: ghosts, spiders, witch brooms...whatever the kids want or you can surprise your guests with.
Place the cookies on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake at 180 degrees for 15 minutes.
While the cookies are cooling, you can prepare the icing: mix 2 tablespoons of icing sugar with 1 teaspoon of water until you get a smooth but shiny mass. You can also use colouring to make the decoration shinier.
Decorate the already cooled cookies with the icing. Here you can use a piping bag, decorate with great precision, or you can do it together with the children, which they will enjoy.
