Indonesian Fried Rice Nasi Goreng Recipe
Nasi Goreng is a flavorful and spicy fried rice dish that's a staple in Indonesia. It's an excellent way to use leftover rice for a quick and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 3 cups of cooked jasmine rice
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 red chili peppers, finely chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 spring onions, sliced
- 1 teaspoon shrimp paste
- 2 tbls soy sauce
- 2 tbls kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
- 1 Cup cooked chicken or shrimp (optional)
- 2 eggs
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tbls vegetable oil

Directions
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium heat. Crack in the eggs and cook until the whites are set but the yolk is still runny. Set the fried eggs aside.
Add the remaining oil in the same pan. Sauté the onion, garlic, and red chili peppers until aromatic.
Add the shrimp paste and stir well. Ensure it's fully combined with other spices.
If using, add the cooked chicken or shrimp and stir-fry until it's well coated with the spice mixture.
Add the cooked rice. Stir well to make sure the rice is evenly distributed and well coated with the spice mixture.
Pour in the soy sauce and kecap manis. Continue to stir and mix the ingredients well.
Season with salt and pepper. Stir in the spring onions.
Divide the fried rice into four servings. Top each with a fried egg and serve immediately.
