Traditional Indian Cucumber Yogurt Raita Sauce
Raita is a refreshing Indian yogurt-based side dish that accompanies spicy meals perfectly. This cool and creamy condiment is made with yogurt, various vegetables, and aromatic spices. It provides a cooling effect to balance out the heat of the main course and adds a burst of tangy flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 cups yoghurt
- 2 small cucumbers, peeled and finely chopped
- 1 medium tomato, deseeded and chopped
- 1⁄2 small red onion
- 2 tbls cilantro, chopped
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon chaat masala (optional)
- salt to taste

Directions
In a bowl, beat the yogurt until smooth and creamy.
Add the chopped cucumber, tomato, red onion, and cilantro to the yogurt.
Mix well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
Sprinkle cumin powder, chaat masala (if using), and salt over the mixture.
Stir again until all the spices are well incorporated.
Taste the raita and adjust the seasonings according to your preference.
Transfer the raita to a serving dish.
Garnish with a sprinkle of cumin powder and fresh cilantro leaves.
Serve chilled as a side dish with spicy Indian curries, biryanis, or naan bread.
